ABSTRACT

Osteoid osteoma is an osteoblastic benign tumor of the bone which is generally seen between the ages of 7-25 years. It is usually seen in males, especially in long bones of the lower extremities, with various clinical symptoms and signs. The most common symptom is severe pain that is often observed at night. The pattern of pain may easily be confused by radicular pain and thus making the diagnosis difficult. In this report, we present a 13-year-old boy with osteoid osteoma involving the lesser tubercle of femur. The patient complained of hip and thigh pain and numbness in the anterior of the thigh. He had been previously seen in several hospitals with various diagnoses in the last 5 months. On hip magnetic resonance imaging, stress fractures were identified. Since the symptoms were not relieved with rest and medical treatment, he was referred to our clinic and computed tomography confirmed the diagnosis of osteoid osteoma. Finally, the patient was planned to be treated with percutaneous radiofrequency ablation. We aimed to emphasize that osteoid osteoma might have different clinical symptoms and that we should consider it especially in young patients with relevant painful complaints.
