ABSTRACT

Paget’s disease of the bone is a chronic disease of unknown etiology that affects mainly elderly population. Genetic and environmental factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of the disease. Paget’s disease is characterized by increased bone resorption followed by excessive new bone formation. The diagnosis is usually made incidentally during radiological investigations for other conditions or due to an unexpected elevation of serum alkaline phosphatase. Focal pain in the involved bones is the most common symptom of disease. Nitrogen containing bisphosphonates are first line drugs in the treatment. In this study we present a patient diagnosed with Paget’s disease and discussed the features of this disorder which is of importance in the elderly population.
