ABSTRACT

Increased prevalence of low bone mineral density (BMD), and an increase in osteoporosis has been reported in major depression, especially women. Studies evaluating the correlation between osteoporosis and depression and increased fracture risk, especially five longitudinal studies were reviwed. Fracture risk may be increased in women with depression.independent of low BMD. Depression, may be assessed as a risk factor for low BMD and osteoporosis.
